JICA Group Training "Local area Environmental Management and Pollution Control" Course Has Begun

This is a new course, initiated in fiscal 2009. Regarding the actual situation of industrial pollution in developing countries, it is obvious that small and medium scale enterprises and plants not in conformity with environmental management systems have become sources of pollution, and that pollution affecting urban ecology is becoming more serious. In response to these problems, this course has been designed to have participants learn methods relating to administrative support, so that enterprises and local residents will be able to improve their environmental management ability of their own accord.
For this course, a total of five administrators, two from China, two from Ghana, and one from Tajikistan, have been received as trainees for a period of one month from August 13th (Thu) to September 18th (Fri). The course opening ceremony was held on August 17th (Mon), and on the following day, August 18, a meeting was held to present reports on individual countries and duties. For all five administrators this is their first visit to Japan, and they are eager to learn about Japanese experiences and technologies concerning pollution control. From now on, we plan to provide lectures, on-site training in enterprises and facilities in our prefecture, and discussions, to help trainees prepare their own action plans.
