FY2009 Environment Cooperation Program for Asia (ECPA) “Training Course on Environmental Management for Local Government Officials of Preah Sihanouk Province, Cambodia” completed

The Fiscal 2009 Environment Cooperation Program for Asia (ECPA) “Training Course on Environmental Management for Local Government Officials of Preah Sihanouk Province, Cambodia”, commissioned by Mie Prefecture, continued from August 30 to September 18.
This is the second year since this training course was designed for the local government officials of Preah Sihanouk Province, the Kingdom of Cambodia. The Provincial Basic Plan was prepared in the training course that was held in the last fiscal year, 2008, but the course of this fiscal year, 2009, was intended to have the government officials as training participants draw up action plans based on the Basic Plan and to enhance their abilities of environmental management.
Ten officials were received as training participants. They not only learned about various kinds of countermeasure skills and efforts for countermeasures made at the sites that they visited, but they had an opportunity to come in contact with Japanese children and seemed to enjoy themselves very much. Also, they were impressed to realize that environmental education was widespread here in Japan.

With a view to the conservation and management of natural resources, action plans were drawn up focusing on environmental enlightenment and education for each of the fields such as waste and wastewater, and natural environment. The lecturers gave to the participants the words of praise, saying that they had made out such remarkable plans of different kinds of fields for a short period of time, as well as the encouragement, commenting that further improvements were necessary for plans so that they could take advantage of their activities.
We highly expect the participants to make future efforts in Preah Sihanouk Province, Cambodia. (Person in charge: Ueda)
