On August 8 (Thur.), a visit to ICETT was paid by eleven members of the Joint Study Group of China Development, including Masatake Wada, professor of economics at Teikyo University. This was arranged by the Manufacturing Promotion Division of the Employment and Economic Affairs Department of the Mie Prefectural Government.
The visitors learned about the activities and programs of ICETT and the Japanese history of pollution by watching relevant images, which was followed by a question-and-answer session.
The group explained that China has been implementing eco-friendly policies, even though the country is confronted with difficult issues, such as the disparity in policy between the central and local governments and the simultaneous pursuit of economic growth and environmental conservation.
At the end of the session, they all reached an agreement that it is important to learn from Japan’s past struggles to overcome serious pollution to accomplish both economic growth and environmental protection.
