ICETT conducted a lecture on the environment and the activities and programs of the organization. ICETT used DVD images and PowerPoint slides to explain that Yokkaichi suffered serious pollution issues from the 1960s onward but clean air and water can be observed today in the city, thanks to active joint efforts by local residents, companies, and the municipal government to solve these problems, and that it is very important for the Japanese to prevent environmental pollution in developing countries.
The students earnestly listened to the lecture, taking notes and answering quizzes on the environment. They commented that they had learned how important it is to protect the environment.
At a tour of the ICETT building, there was an explanation about how participants from abroad stay at the building during training courses. The students saw objects, displayed at the entrance, of folk handicraft from different countries and might have learned that ICETT has relationships with many countries.
What people can do to contribute to environmental protection was presented by slides.
At a dining room, the students learned that careful consideration is given to dishes for participants, which are served in accordance with the religions, nationalities, or taste of participants.
A female student, representing the visiting group, expressed their gratitude to ICETT and made a comment on what the students experienced at ICETT.
It is a pleasure that junior high school students come to ICETT every year to learn about the environment, an experience that helps them increase their awareness of environmental protection. ICETT will welcome students next year, too.
