On the morning of October 9 (Wed.), ICETT received 52 students of a mature age class from the Yokkaichi Citizens’ College.

First, these students were asked how many of them know or have heard about ICETT. There were only a few who knew or have visited the organization before. Next, they listened to an explanation of ICETT activities that used PowerPoint slides and videos. Following that, the visitors commented that it was amazing that there is an organization in Yokkaichi contributing to environmental conservation on an international level and that ICETT should more widely carry out public relations activities. There were also questions asked about what kind of people come to ICETT as participants, how the situation of the participants’ activities is after returning home, and what the results of these activities are.

Most of the participants serve as central and local government officials engaged in the fields of the environment, policymaking, and laws and regulations. It is difficult to clearly show the results of training courses at ICETT, but as for China that sends participants to ICETT every year, it still appears to be a long way to tighten control on Chinese businesses and residents, while the country's laws and regulations are being established steadily. To simultaneously pursue economic growth and environmental protection, there is a necessity in China for active promotion of environmental business methods among Chinese companies and awareness-raising among the Chinese.

ICETT’s public relations section has actively participated in events, such as exhibitions, to promote the activities and programs of ICETT, but they are often difficult to explain in simple terms. It is mostly administration and companies that ICETT has developed relationships with through its programs, and it is frustrating that there are very few opportunities for local residents in Yokkaichi to learn about ICETT’s activities except for a local group of people who tell the participants about the Yokkaichi pollution. ICETT will more actively use various tools and media and work out plans for more effective publicity activities.
