FY2015 Support Program Completed for Overseas Business Expansion Promotion

Objectives

This program was commissioned by the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry. In view of the high potential of environmental businesses in the Chubu central region of Japan, the long-term aim of the program was to conduct market cultivation activities in and outside Japan, combined with job creation efforts, while concentrating the strong product development capabilities and manufacturing technology owned by local Japanese companies to develop higher-value added equipment and systems for environmental protection and pollution control.

Outline

The contents of the program were as follows.

Updating and Upgrading of Enterprises and Superior Technology and Products Databases

ICETT updated and added more enterprises to the databases, posted on the website of the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, of “Enterprises Working on the Environmental Business in the Chubu Central Region of Japan” and “Environmentally Superior Technology and Products in the Chubu Central Region of Japan”.

Environmental Business Alliance Matching Seminar

Together with companies in the Chubu central region, ICETT took part in the Environmental Business Alliance Matching Seminars to help them pursue new business partner development in Japan. The seminars were organized by bureaus of economy, trade and industry from other Japanese regions.

Promotion of Open Innovation

After large companies published their technological development needs as open innovation, ICETT implemented two presentation sessions, each for one large business, where interested local companies made proposals to the major companies.

Promotion of Industry-University Cooperation

Since environmental businesses in the Tokai central region of Japan have high potential, ICETT held environmental business seminars and matching events to promote cooperation between industries and universities. ICETT also focused on the advantage the region has in ceramics and metal recovery technology, while, at the same time, concentrating the strong product development capabilities and manufacturing technology owned by local companies to develop higher-value added equipment and resource recovery systems for environmental protection and pollution control.

Mission in Indonesia

ICETT held environmental business seminars and matching events in Indonesia. They were attended by seven Japanese companies. The Southeast Asian country is suffering from serious pollution problems, caused by its recent industrialization, and needs to improve water quality in the environment.

Mission in Vietnam

Together with the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, ICETT participated as their secretariat in environmental business seminars and matching events in Vietnam. The events, which were organized by JETRO Nagoya and JICA Chubu, were attended by nine Japanese companies.
