History of the CTI Workshop

(1) Background

CTI Workshop on Energy Efficiency was first conducted in 1998, as a program of the training component of the Climate Technology Initiative (CTI)( External link ), which is originally started as a voluntary initiative of UNFCCC in 1995, and launched as a new implementing agreement of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in 2003.

(2) Workshops in the past (1998 - 2003)

ICETT has conducted a series of CTI workshops on Energy Efficiency for Asian Countries for the last six years from 1998 to 2003. Its objectives have been to promote widespread uptake of energy efficient technologies that are conducive to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This workshop series has invited a total of eighty-eight participants from six Asian countries, most of whom are practitioners in national government agencies, plant managers and engineers of private companies.

The main focuses of the program have been to provide technical information, and to raise awareness and motivation toward clean technologies, as well as to enhance knowledge on applications and practices that address the barriers to the promotion and diffusion of such technologies. The topics in the program included energy policies and issues, cleaner production, environmental management system, and the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The participants were provided with exhaustive information on these topics by resource persons from international agencies and developed countries.

The efficacy of the workshop manifested itself in the feedback from the participants which showed their positive outlook and strong motivation toward the promotion of energy efficient and cleaner production technologies, and willingness to maintain cooperative ties with ICETT in its current activities.
