[Report] The 5th Carbon Neutral Seminar for SMEs in Thailand was held.

[Background and Objectives]

On October 7, ICETT, in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Works (DIW) of Thailand’s Ministry of Industry, held a seminar in Bangkok, Thailand, aimed at promoting carbon neutrality (CN) in Thailand’s industrial sector, primarily targeting local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other relevant organizations.

In May 2024, ICETT and DIW signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding cooperation on promoting CN in Thailand’s industrial sector. Since then, we have continued initiatives to promote the decarbonization of Thai companies, including hosting seminars for Thai SMEs and providing hands-on support to help them calculate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and explore reduction measures.

This seminar is aimed at SMEs and other organizations in Thailand’s food industry. It seeks to deepen participants’ understanding of the decarbonization management process(GHG emissions calculation → energy-saving assessment → formulation of a reduction plan → implementation of reduction measures) as well as practical approaches to achieving decarbonization. The seminar will also introduce our initiatives to promote the adoption of advanced energy-saving and other decarbonization technologies by Thai companies, with a particular focus on technologies developed by companies in the Chubu region, including Mie Prefecture.

[Event Overview]

In line with the above objectives, this seminar was conducted with funding from the “Project for Human Resource Development for Zero-Emissions in Asia and Other Regions,” a subsidized program of the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS), a general incorporated foundation.

[Future Developments and Initiatives]

A total of 242 participants—not only SMEs but also large corporations, government agencies, and research institutions—attended this seminar (85 in-person and 157 online), making it a great success. Participants listened intently to the lectures, and the lively question-and-answer sessions demonstrated their high level of interest in decarbonization initiatives.

Furthermore, the results of a post-seminar survey of participants (213 responses) showed that, in addition to helping participants gain knowledge about the procedures for calculating GHG emissions and related initiatives, the seminar significantly contributed to a better understanding of the advanced energy-saving technologies and equipment possessed by Japanese companies.

Moving forward, we aim to share our experience and achievements in Thailand, including the outcomes of the recent seminar, with a broader range of Thai companies. We also seek to promote the adoption of advanced energy-saving and other decarbonization technologies developed by companies in the Chubu region, particularly Mie Prefecture, to support Thai companies in reducing their GHG emissions.
