JICA Training Course Closes on “Promotion of Project Formulation of Clean Development Mechanism in Central Asia and Caucasus Region”

A JICA-commissioned training course on “Promotion of Project Formulation of Clean Development Mechanism in Central Asia and Caucasus Region” was held from October 24 (Mon.) to November 17 (Thur.). It ended with a closing ceremony.

ceremony The course was designed to learn about Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects, which need to be pursued on an international basis to cope with global warming. It was attended by five participants: one from Kyrgyz, two from Moldova, and two from Uzbekistan.

Officials from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and JICA delivered lectures about the Japanese efforts against global warming. While visiting related facilities in Kobe, Kitakyushu, as well as Mie Prefecture, to learn about renewable wind, solar, and biogas energy, the participants attended lectures by leading experts, who have long worked on global warming issues, on the concept of CDM projects and methods for drawing up the Project Design Documents (PDD) for CDM projects.

The participants developed project plans for new potential fields in their own countries and drew up the Project Idea Notes (PIN) and PDDs. After returning home, they will follow up their efforts in the course by further considering the possibilities of turning all these potential projects into reality.

It was the third and last time for ICETT to implement the course for participants from the project host countries to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to formulate a system that helps their Designated National Authorities (DNA) develop more effective projects and provide investors with useful project information and consultation services.

We strongly hope that the participants will make the most of their training experiences over the last three years to see a continuous increase in the number of such projects realized in their countries.

Besides the course work, the participants had opportunities to get in touch with Japanese culture by trying on kimonos and experiencing calligraphy and the art of “origami” - folding paper into various figures, at JICA Chubu. During their stay at ICETT they visited “Shisui-an”, a Japanese tea house, in Yokkaichi to experience the tea ceremony. They also took a day trip to Kyoto to fully enjoy the beauty of autumnal red leaves.

They admired the Japanese for their hospitality and hardworking attitudes so much that they seem to have come to like Japan all the more.

We would very much like to express our gratitude to all the parties involved in the course for the cordial support and cooperation. (Kise)
