Session1 Orientation

Session 1-1 Orientation Programme

Outline:

In this session, participants was provided with the general information that will help them have a comfortable stay at ICETT. Expectations from the workshop were elicited from the participants to find common ground between needs and wishes on these sessions.

Objectives:

The participants will:

  • (1) be introduced to the workshop programme, and clarified their own expectations and roles.
  • (2) be familiarised with daily life in Japan.

Discussion Topics:

  • What are your expectations from this workshop?
  • What are the priority problems and issues in your current work?

ICETT Overview

Remarks:

In general, ICETT furnishes the training facilities and accommodations (40 single rooms) for the participants' use.

Session 1-2 Keynote Lecture

Outline:

The keynote lecture was provided by Agency of Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), describing an introduction to the Japan's Energy Policy. This session highlighted the policy's targets and goals, the synopsis of
energy use rationalization, the current situation of energy conservation measures, and the reduction of greenhouse gases.

Objectives:

The participants will:

  • (1) be introduced to Japan's energy policy, with a focus on energy conservation.
  • (2) be given an explanation of greenhouse gases in relation to Japan's measures.

Remarks:

The Environmental Protection and Industrial Location Bureau of Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) designs measures concerning global environmental issues such as global warming, prevention of industrial pollution, and recycling of industrial wastes. Measures include the establishment of vigorous local economic communities, adjustment to industrial location, and improvement of industrial water supply.
In addition, the bureau is responsible for ensuring industrial safety in relation to propellant, liquefied petroleum gas and explosives, and for preventing mine pollution and disasters.
