The History of Pollution and Environmental Restoration in Yokkaichi (34 minutes, English and Chinese)

This is a summary of the history of Yokkaichi environmental pollution from the first occurrence of pollution up to the phase in which it was overcome. Included are the start of operation of Yokkaichi petrochemical complexes in the economic growth after World War II, the occurrence of pollution, early reinforcement of laws and regulations by local governments, ahead of the nation, as well as the measures taken by the industries to prevent pollution.

Recovery of Clean Water; Laws, Regulations and Technology for Water Pollution Control (17 minutes, English and Chinese)

The historical background of water pollution and the conditions of under which the Minamata and Itai-itai diseases occurred are explained. The purpose and content of laws to prevent water pollution as well as related ones are discussed. More stringent prefectural standards, wastewater treatment systems and technologies for improving of water quality, and monitoring systems by the telemeter in Japan are also explained.

Air pollution; The Present Environmental Situation and Preventive Measures (23 minutes, English and Chinese)

The history of air pollution, such as the pollution that accompanied by the start of operation of the first petrochemical complex in Japan at Yokkaichi are presented. The legislation related to air pollution prevention, atmospheric pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide, and its generating conditions, measures or technologies to remove them at-source are also touched upon.

Industrial Waste; The Present Environmental Situation and Preventive Measures (18 minutes English, Chinese and Spanish)

The problems of solid waste are growing more serious, as mass production and mass consumption advances. The history of reinforcing or establishing stricter regulations and laws regarding industrial waste, aspects of the current Waste Disposal Law, as well as conditions of waste generation and treatment methods in Japan are explained. As examples of proper treatment and promotion of the recycling of industrial waste, control type industrial waste disposal facilities, recycling of waste in a cement plant, as well as a brewery which attained zero emissions are presented.

Cleaner Production - Comprehensive Pollution Control Measures in Economic Activities-

Many countries have recently focused their attention on introducing Cleaner Production (CP) which is designed not only to remove pollutants but also to ensure compatibility between load reduction and corporate profit increase. This video introduces the concepts and the expected effects of CP as well as the examples of Japanese companies' efforts toward CP.

Earth; Precious Planet of Water and Life (Let's Learn about Preventing Global Warming): Japanese, English, Chinese and Spanish

Global warming issues have been attracting people’s attention in recent years because of their far-ranging effects on the global environment. Considering this situation, ICETT has produced an instructive film in order to promote activities to prevent global warming at the Expo 2005 Aichi. In the film, global warming issues are explained, illustrated with actual examples from the natural landscape in Mie Prefecture. Technological measures taken by Mie and several other neighboring prefectures are also introduced for easier understanding and promotion of the issues.

What's Zero-Emission? (Let's Learn about the Resource Recycling Society): Japanese, English, Chinese and Spanish

An instructive film on environmental issues has been made for the Expo 2005 Aichi. With waste disposal problems as a main theme, the film introduces various Japanese efforts for building a zero-emission and recycling society.
