【Report】The 2nd ICETT Carbon Neutral Seminar in FY2025 "The Next Step in Energy Saving - Carbon Credits that Turn CO₂ Reduction into Value -" was held.

Background of the Project

International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT) has been holding the ICETT Carbon Neutral Seminar since fiscal year 2024 with the aim of contributing to the promotion of Carbon Neutrality (CN) in Japan and overseas, including ASEAN countries, and businesses that contribute to it, by sharing information with companies and organizations.
This seminar, titled "The Next Step in Energy Saving," focused on the creation of carbon credits, a market that is expected to become even more active in the future.

[Purpose of the Seminar]

In Japan, "Carbon Pricing," in which companies and others trade CO₂ emissions at a price, will be gradually institutionalized in the future in order to achieve CN by 2050.
There is a growing trend to generate "Carbon Credits" representing the amount of CO₂ reduction through a company's efforts and trade them on the market. Especially for the manufacturing industry, energy-saving improvements that are closely related to business activities are likely to lead to the creation of credits. Therefore, the creation of carbon credits is attracting attention as a means of creating new value.
This seminar aimed to promote the creation of carbon credits by businesses in the Chubu region, especially manufacturers, and their efforts to achieve CN by sharing the latest policy trends and examples of credit creation with businesses, local governments, and others.

[Results and Prospects]

This seminar was held in a hybrid style of on-site and online, and 98 participants from companies, government agencies, and research institutes, mainly from Mie and Aichi prefectures, attended. In the lectures, the Chubu Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry presented the latest trends in J-credit policies, BYWILL, Inc. explained the methods and merits of credit creation, and speakers from a variety of perspectives shared the latest information, including an overview of creation support by Sanjusan Bank, Ltd. and a case study of carbon credit creation by Matsusaka City.
After each lecture, participants asked many questions. After the seminar, the business card exchange with the lecturers was held at the venue, and it provided an opportunity for participants and lecturers to deepen exchanges.
We hope that this seminar will help promote efforts to create carbon credits and achieve CN.
ICETT will continue to plan and implement seminars and other information dissemination opportunities to promote carbon neutral initiatives in Japan and abroad and to develop local economies.
