Environmental Technology Transfer Promotion Research and Information Dissemination: Technology Exchange Held between Henan Province, China, and Japan

Environmental and Energy Saving Technology Exchange Organized by the Mie Prefectural and Henan Provincial Governments

China has been pursuing the twelfth five-year plan, which started in 2011 and will end in 2015. Under the plan, the country intends to attain the target values of environmental pollutant reduction and energy saving. In these circumstances, the Henan provincial government is determined to make active efforts to improve energy saving technology to conserve the environment while companies of the province are paying a great deal of attention to highly advanced and valued Japanese environmental technology to follow the national government’s policies.

The year 2011 marked the 25th anniversary of the friendship affiliation between Mie Prefecture and Henan Province, and in the memorial year an event, titled the Mie Prefecture and Henan Province Environmental and Energy Saving Technology Exchange, was held to promote not only the exchange between Mie and Henan but also technology exchanges between Japanese and Chinese enterprises to help create business opportunities.

Outline of Technology Exchange

Sessions for exchanging information and knowledge of environmental technology with an emphasis on certain subjects were organized. Environmental issues including energy saving, which should be tackled by Chinese companies in Henan, were discussed by Chinese technical experts and company executives from Henan, Japanese experts, and officials from Japanese companies which have advanced environmental technology regarded as quite useful in the province. It was also discussed how the Japanese technology can be used to solve the problems.

Comments and Requests from Chinese Participants

It was ICETT’s first involvement in an occasion that promoted Japanese and Chinese business opportunities in the environmental and energy saving field. There were lively discussions throughout the event and, even after the event, negotiations between the Japanese and Chinese companies are in progress.

Among many others, the following comments were heard from the Chinese participants:
  • “I felt that Japan has a high level of energy efficient management and wastewater disposal technology. I also had a good experience here and will take full advantage of it after returning home.”
  •  “I liked the style of the exchange sessions very much.”
  •  “We intend to consider the possibilities of supporting continued exchanges financially and on a policy basis.”
Some of the requests made by the Chinese participants were:
  •  “There was interesting technology presented at the event and I will ask for follow-up activities after returning home.”
  •  “I believe that exchanges like this should again be conducted in the future. Exhibitions as well as these kinds of discussions will be desirable.”
