CTI Dissemination of Energy Efficiency Technology in the Rolling Mill Cluster in India FY2011

 　From June 26 to July 2, ICETT, in cooperation with its Indian counterpart, held the first session of a “CTI Dissemination of Energy Efficiency Technology in the Rolling Mill Cluster in India FY2011” in Raipur, the capital city of the state of Chhattisgarh, providing technical guidance by Japanese experts for four steel re-rolling mills.

　At the mills, ingots are made of steel scrap, collected in their surrounding area, and turned into steel sheets or other materials  through the heating and re-rolling process. The Indian state has a large amount of coal deposits. Mainly powdered coal is used at heating furnaces, while electric furnaces are used to produce steel ingots.

  On the final day, a workshop was held and attended by nearly 60 government officials and owners and engineers of the re-rolling mills. The Japanese experts made presentations of the current situation and the points to be improved at the Raipur mills, followed by a lively exchange of views and opinions among the participants.

  This program intends to improve the situation of the whole Indian rolling industry. The previous program was successful in improving heating furnaces at steel re-rolling mills in Bhavnagar, in the state of Gujarat, It decrease the amount of powdered coal to be used, thereby enabling the efficient steel production.

  The participants in the workshop showed a great interest in the program, making a request for presentations on how the results in Bhavnagar can be applied to the Raipur mills. (Tabata & Kise)
