【Report】4th Carbon Neutral Seminar was held in Thailand, co-hosted by Department of Industrial Works (DIW) of Ministry of Industry of Thailand and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Summary

International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT), in cooperation with Department of Industrial Works (DIW) of Thai Ministry of Industry, Thailand, and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), held a two-day seminar on August 6 and 7 in Nakhon Pathom Province. The seminar includes GHG emissions calculation and reduction and promotes efforts by Thai food-related companies (including Japanese companies) to decarbonize their operations.

Background and Objectives

ICETT and DIW signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in promoting CN in Thai industry in May 2024, and based on the MoU, three CN seminars were held in Bangkok last fiscal year.
Due to requests from Thai, we plan to hold two more CN seminars in this fiscal year (FY). This 4th CN Seminar was the first one in this FY.
This seminar will be supported by Global Environment Facility (GEF) program through UNIDO, as in the previous FY.

Seminar Outline

In addition to lectures and exercises on calculation and reduction of GHG emissions, Japanese companies with excellent energy-saving technologies that contribute to GHG emission reduction measures introduced their energy-saving products and services. At the end of the seminar, participants, including the lecturers, engaged in a lively question-and-answer session and exchange of opinions on issues and initiatives toward the realization of CN.

Related Initiatives

In the cooperative program with DIW, this FY, ICETT and DIW will newly provide an in-depth-consultancy to individual companies on GHG emissions calculation and other related matters. ICETT and DIW will provide support to about three companies selected from among the local companies (including Thai base of Japanese company) that participated in the 3rd CN Seminar last FY. Japanese consultants will support this in-depth-consultancy.

Results and future developments/efforts, etc.

Through this seminar, we believe that Thai food-related companies and others were able to acquire how to calculate GHG emissions, as well as gain an understanding of specific measures and technologies (especially those possessed by Japanese companies) for reducing emissions, with a focus on energy conservation.
Going forward, we plan to begin in-depth-consultancy of GHG emissions calculations for individual model companies around this September. The status of in-depth-consultancy for model companies will be shared with other local companies at the next seminar, which will be the second seminar of this FY to further promote the spread of CN initiatives and implementation of specific reduction measuresamong among food-related companies in Thailand.
