No. 063

Classification of Technology:

Air Pollution Control

Type of Industry:

Steel

Subject:

Reduction of Exhaust SO2

1. Purpose
Reduction of the amount of SO
2 discharged, by installing the flue gas desulfurization equipment in the factory, aiming at the sintering furnace exhaust gas with high SO2 discharge load.

2. Details and the Time of Introduction
The dry type flue gas desulfurization equipment with activated carbon, that does not require waste water processing and is also suitable for processing large amount of exhaust gas such as in the sintering furnace, was installed.
( No. 3 sintering furnace operating from August, 1987 )
3. Principle
Adsorption/desorption reaction by activated carbon.
<Adsorption> SO
2 + H2O + 1/2 H2O -> H2SO4
SO
2 is adsorbed on the surface of the activated carbon and is oxidized and becomes sulfuric acid.
<Desorption> H
2SO4 + 1/2 C -> SO2 + CO2 + H2O
Returns to SO
2 after heat decomposition. SO2 becomes an ingredient for ammonium sulfate.
See next page for flowsheet.

4. Effect and Achievement
Amount of gas processed900,000 mN3/H
Desulfurization efficiencyOver 95%
Adsorption column450,000 mN3/H x 2,
Cross flow moving bed system, space velocity 800 H-1
Desorption column15 T/H x 1, 350°C Indirect heating moving bed type
Desorption column heating equipmentCOG combustion and combustion gas recirculating system
