Reduction of NOx in Furnace Combustion Exhaust Gas
1. Purpose
To reduce NOx discharge from chimney stack from 300 ~ 400ppm to 110 ~ 150ppm in accordance with NOx discharge standard for air pollution control and prefectural regulation on total amount of discharge.
2. Details and the Time
A total of 137 low NOx burners ( called SRG burner ) were installed mainly on the heating furnaces and boilers of our refinery concerned. ( 1974 ~ 1982 )
3. Principle
This is a self reverse flow burner that burns fuel in reduction atmosphere by using energy from fuel and steam and causing reverse flow of a part of the steam and combustion gas in the burner tile. ( Refer figure on next page )

5. Future Subject
When installing the new equipment, it will be necessary not only to use low NOx burner but also to use NOx removal measures such as the introduction of good quality fuel and denigration equipment to cope with the strict NOx regulations.
