Discontinuance of Use of 1-1-1 Trichloroethane
( Ozone layer destroying substance )
1. Purpose
Since the manufacture of 1-1-1 trichloroethane would be prohibited at the end of 1995, a changeover was made to a substitute solvent.
2. Applied Technology and the Time
1-1-1 Trichloroethane had been used as a discoloration prevention solvent for conductors. An alcohol based solvent ( isopropyl alcohol added to ethyl alcohol ) was used in place of 1-1-1 trichloroethane and the equipment was remodeled to the one suitable for handling the dangerous inflammables. ( June, 1995 )
3. What to do next ?
Although changed to the alcohol based solvent, both the development of a substitute solvent which is less volatile in the air and the study of facilities are to be advanced.
