Message from Chair of the CTI for the Participants

5 October 1998

Message from the Chair of the CTI
for the Participants in the
CTI Training Course on Energy Efficiency

It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you on this important occasion - the first Climate Technology Initiative (CTI) Training Course. Its subject, Energy Efficiency, is central to man's ability to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases, and hence to mitigate the potential impacts of global climate change. By participating in this Course, you are making a major contribution to solving this problem. The technologies and practices that you will be exposed to this week are vital as we begin to address this issue and the needs of sustainable development. The benefits from applying what you learn here this week will be multiplied many times over when you share your knowledge with your colleagues and associates at home.

This course is the first of a series of such courses that we intend to offer under the sponsorship of the CTI. We plan to make these courses available in different regions of the world, and to cover a range of subjects that reflect the CTI Mission:

To promote the objectives of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) by fostering international cooperation for accelerated development and diffusion of climate-friendly technologies and practices for all activities and greenhouse gases.

My CTI colleagues and I are looking forward to learning from your experience as well so that the CTI can go on to design even better and more useful courses in the months and years ahead. I invite you to share with us your views and "lessons Learned," and to make suggestions for future course topics and materials.

Again, it is an honor for me to congratulate and thank you for being her today. While I am sorry that I cannot be there with you, you have my best wishes for what I know will be a successful and productive week.

Sincerely,

Abraham E. Haspel
