Chairman of the Board of Directors
Toshio Mita
(Chairman, Chubu Economic Federation)
On May 19, I was installed as chairman of the Chubu Economic Federation. On June 24, I was also elected as a member of the executive board of the International Center for Environmental Technology Transfer (ICETT) and installed as chairman of its Board of Directors and as its Representative Director.
I will make the greatest efforts as chairman and representative director to support ICETT in fulfilling their duties to protect the global environment.
On April 1, 2011, ICETT became a public interest incorporated foundation after receiving authorization from the Japanese prime minister on March 23. Under a new act, ICETT as a public interest incorporated foundation is required to govern itself and assume responsibility for its own activities.
A wide variety of environmental issues, such as global warming prevention, have been discussed on an international basis and there is a growing necessity for countries all over the world to cooperate with each other to tackle environmental problems.
In these circumstances, Japan is highly expected to make international contributions in the environmental field since the country once suffered from serious pollution problems at the time of its rapid economic growth but successfully overcame these difficulties. In response to these expectations, ICETT has thus far transferred sophisticated Japanese environmental technology to other, especially developing, countries to contribute to the protection of the global environment as well as the sustainable development of the world economy.
ICETT will make the most of knowledge and knowhow, accumulated for over 20 years since its establishment, and a great human network outside and inside Japan, and more vigorously carry out activities to contribute to the conservation of the global environment, the very mission of ICETT.
As chairman and representative director, I would very much like to ask for your cooperation and support for the new ICETT.
