Hong Kong has actively worked on environmental measures for properly disposing of waste and enhancing energy efficiency in the buildings. There is a growing demand in Hong Kong for new eco-friendly technology, which provides many business opportunities in the fields of energy-saving buildings, waste recycling, and the installation of composting toilets.
ICETT has engaged in a support program for business opportunities outside Japan so that Japanese companies can start their business overseas selling their own environmental technology. As part of the program, ICETT participated in the 2017 Eco Expo Asia Hong Kong together with Shinko Tecnos Co., Ltd. in Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture, which was selected from among applicants. This largest international trade fair on environmental protection in Hong Kong, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd., marked its twelfth anniversary in 2017.

ICETT used panels and distributed newsletters to promote its own activities, such as training programs in and outside Japan, overseas survey programs, and support programs for environmental business.

Most of the visitors to the booth were Hong Kong residents, but there also appeared to be many visitors from Shenzhen and Shanghai. Hong Kong enjoys quite active exchanges with Shenzhen in neighboring Guangdong Province, China.
Shinko Tecnos’s waste recycling technology drew the interest of many visitors. There were some who visited the booth repeatedly to see the technology. There also were, of course, other visitors who showed an interest in ICETT’s training activities.

Exhibiting jointly with the company encouraged the visitors to easily understand a program to support environmental business, one of ICETT’s main activities. The fair was a very significant opportunity for ICETT to effectively promote its activities.
Through the helpful offices of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, ICETT had exchanges with many interested persons and was invited to a reception for them, a briefing reception for Japanese businesses, and a board meeting which was attended by business people from Hong Kong.
According to the Council, Hong Kong appears to be a developed region when considering its living standards but falls short when it comes to the environment. People in Hong Kong have lower awareness of environmental protection than those in developed countries. These circumstances show that there will be growing needs for environmental business in Hong Kong.
ICETT intends to take advantage of the human networks it developed at this event and support environmental business in Hong Kong.
